DESCRIPTION: STOP HEAT is a water-borne high-performance coating solution that blocks the absorption of solar heat gain into any external surface. Normal paints heat up from exposure to the sun. STOP HEAT is specifically designed with ceramics to keep your surfaces cool. Once applied by brush, roller or spray, STOP HEAT significantly reduces surface temperatures resulting in substantial comfort through reflectivity and emissivity. STOP HEAT is both tough and flexible, with a low permeability to resists corrosion and surface deterioration. Used on buildings, RV’s, boats, equipment and more.
Characteristics:
- Easy to apply – brush, roll, spray
- Keeps surfaces cool – proprietary ceramics
- Fast cure – 2 hr. overcoat @ 70F (21C), 40% humidity & direct sunlight
- Low VOC – Tested 21 grams per liter
- Non-flammable – water based
- Easy to clean – soap and water
- Mold & mildew resistant
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:
- Metal roofs & walls
- Mobile homes and RV roofs
- Shipping containers
- AC unit shell, exposed metal ducting
- Marine wheelhouse and vertical metal
- Industrial tanks storing light hydrocarbons
- Agricultural silos, horse trailers, chicken farms
- Anything prone to heating up from solar radiation
Recommended Primers:
- Non rusted galvanized roofs requires no primer
-
Rusted metal requires RUST BASE primer
(Minimum 2 coats, each coat applied at 200 ft2 per gallon) -
For concrete use RUST BASE as a primer to seal the surface
(Minimum 2 coats, each coat applied at 200 ft2 per gallon) - Tar, Plastic, TPO, PVC, Vinyl or EPDM requires AUTO PREP
SPREAD RATE: Proper thickness can be achieved in 1-2 coats, but STOPHEAT should always be applied to a wet mil thickness of 17 mils wet / 9.3 mils dry (431 micron wet / 236 micron dry). Each gallon covers 95 sq. ft./ 8.82 sq. m.
Technical Informations
SURFACE PREPARATION: Surfaces should be clean, dry and sound. Existing surface dirt, salts, oil, tar, grease and film must be removed prior to application of STOP HEAT. STOP HEAT may be applied to other surfaces: metal, masonry, and wood following preparation procedures recommended according to manufacturer’s specification sheet. Use RUST BASE as a primer when needed on metal and concrete surfaces. Refer to RUST BASE technical data sheet for overcoat window. Modified bitumen, asphalt roofing, PVC, TPO and single-ply membranes must be primed with AUTO PREP. Please note: If any existing paint or coating is not firmly bonded, the existing paint or coating may fail and the surface will require the removal of all existing paint by power wash or abrasive blasting before the application of STOP HEAT.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: STOP HEAT can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray equipment. Mix by hand/mechanical for three minutes, and then apply evenly using the cross hatch method, up-and-down, side-to-side motion to build up your thickness. If spray equipment is used, carbide steel tips (.031) are recommended. IMPORTANT: ALL filters must be removed to prevent sifting of ceramic particles (sprayer and gun). Temperatures must always be a minimum of 5 degrees F above the dew point during application. Surface must be completely dry before applying.
CLEAN UP: Remove any uncured coating or overspray by wiping with mild soap and water or solvent. Follow solvent manufacturer’s directions. Freshly cured product is removed with sandpaper or wire brush. Gloves and safety glasses are always required during set up, application, and clean up.

Questions and Answers
-
Does STOP HEAT come in different colors?
Yes, but because they contain ceramics, light earth tone colors work best.
-
What color produces the best performance?
White, because all low density ceramics are naturally white in color.
-
Can I apply STOP HEAT directly on new metal?
Yes, as long as the surface is clean and free of oil residue.
-
Can I apply STOP HEAT on rusted metal?
Not without Rust Base as your primer
-
Can I apply STOP HEAT on an RV roof?
If its plastic, TPO, PVC, EPDM or rubber roof, then you will need Auto Prep as your primer before applying STOP HEAT.
-
Can I apply STOP HEAT on a flat roof?
Yes, with an approved waterproof top coat and must have structural integrity with water drainage. No ponding water.
-
How do I calculate the spread rate for STOP HEAT?
For corrugation you will need to add minimum 25% or more depending on the height and width of the corrugation. Contact Coatable for more details.
-
How can I apply STOP HEAT?
Brush, Roller 3/4, 1/2 or 1/4 inch roller, or airless sprayer (1.5 gallon per minute). For a smoother appearance and more control during application, use 1/4 inch nap roller and apply in two even coats instead of 1 coat.
-
What is the maximum and minimum temperatures to apply STOP HEAT in?
50F to 170F.
-
What if I am applying in very high humidity?
If very high humidity above 65% AND limited sunlight or cloud cover, then must wait until direct sunlight cures the coating before you can topcoat with STOP HEAT or any other coating.
-
What if it rains after I apply STOP HEAT?
If bubbles are seen do not puncture, wait until direct sunlight to dry down the excess moisture on its own. If heavy rain is expected or experienced within 24 hours of application, there may be some loss of coating thickness as the coating has not yet firmed up and the coating will rehydrate and lose surface film.
-
Once cured, can I walk over a roof coated with STOP HEAT?
Yes
-
Can I apply STOP HEAT on concrete?
Yes, but you will need a base coat because concrete is porous and will absorb STOP HEAT and show shadows within the color
-
Is STOP HEAT Flammable?
No, Stop Heat is water borne and completely no flammable and low VOC.
-
What if I get STOP HEAT on my skin?
Clean with soap and hot water.
-
What type of personnel protection should I use when applying STOP HEAT?
Use a nose covering, gloves and safety googles.
-
Can I mix by hand or electric drill mixer.
If you mix by hand, use a strong stir stick for about 5 minutes, or drill mixer for about 1 minute.
-
Can I add my own tint to STOP HEAT?
You must use a water base tint, not other type of tint will work, and only in light colors.

Storage Life
3 years shelf life if its sealed. If unsealed, and over time the water within the coating has evaporated and the film is dry/thick then you may proceed to add up to one liter / quart of clean water per 5 gallon bucket. Do not add more than one liter/quart per 5 gallon bucket.
